NTT Data seeks a full time, direct hire Senior Underwriter for our customer in the Glastonbury, CT area (remote is an option). GENERAL DESCRIPTION The Senior Underwriter assists the company in retaining accounts and obtaining new sales accounts by preparing and developing information for renewals and the sales process. Analyzes renewals and negotiates renewal rates with carriers for existing business and creates sales proposals for new business. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Prepares for insurance renewal process for existing clients. Reviews and analyzes quotes from insurance carriers and determines best quotes. Negotiates with insurance carriers to provide the most competitive quotes for clients. Reviews quote requests from sales staff to ensure data is complete for obtaining quotes. Creates sales proposals for the sales staff to present to clients. Runs reports to update and analyze claims and review risks including census, pre-certification, RX, RCR, RPC, FR, ISA, CZBL, and PES and reviews LCMs and LCNs. Prepares and runs reports requested by sales agents and reports for block of business. Maintains lists of renewal and new business information including renewal lists, new business lists, and termination lists and sends notifications to Underwriting and Sales staff. Creates and maintains underwriting checklists for auditing. Creates and maintains insurance carrier listings for carrier submission. Updates and creates new businessrenewal templates. Maintains storage files, packages terminated accounts and maintains termination storage listings. Performs other duties as assigned. Responsible for taking reasonable care of their own health and safety at work. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE QUALIFICATIONS Associates degree in Business or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years of medical insurance underwriting experience. Computer proficiency with working knowledge of Microsoft Office products Outlook, Word, and Excel. Computer proficiency in accessing and operating insurance administration, information and reporting systems. SKILLS AND ABILITIES QUALIFICATIONS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS Strong language and mathematical skills with ability to read and interpret written documents and spreadsheets, including working with formulas and numerical data and equations. Exceptional analytical skills to project claims and large claim risks. Demonstrated professional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Exceptional phone etiquette with active listening, clarity of speech, and customer service skills. Ability to remain patient, calm and understanding with customers with effective tolerance of discourteous customers and difficult situations. Ability to use proper judgment and problem-solving skills. Effective time management and organizational skills. Ability to perform quality work demonstrating accuracy, thoroughness, and attention to detail. Must maintain confidentiality and adaptability, and work in a team environment.
